Created by the Community Economic Opportunity Act of 1983, the Office of Economic Opportunity (OEO) is the state's administering agency for the Community Services Block Grant, Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program, Weatherization Assistance Program and Emergency Solutions Grant. OEO works in partnership with community action agencies and other non-profit agencies to administer and distribute funds for local initiatives designed to appreciably impact the causes of poverty. 2017 State CSBG/LIHEAP Quick Facts: South Carolina’s CSBG Network employment initiatives helped 42,803 individuals acquire a job,increase employment income, or achieve a “living wage” with benefits. Learn more -- 45,140 Low-income vulnerable individuals received services and secured or maintained and independent living situation as a result. Learn more -- 2,781 Low-income households achieved an increase in financial assets or financial skills as a result of CSBG Network assistance. Learn more -- 38,789 Low-income vulnerable individuals received services from the CSBG Network and secured or maintained an independent living situation as a result. Learn more -- 28,577 Low-income participants obtained supports which reduced or eliminated barriers to family stability through assistance from the CSBG Network. Learn more -- 52,826 Low-income individuals and families received emergency assistance from the CSBG Network. Learn more -- For every $1 of CSBG funds received, agencies leveraged $2.30 from state, local and private sources (including the value of volunteers hours) in FY 2013-2014.
